A blood donation clinic is taking place at the Sooke Legion on Monday August 28th, and the community is encouraged to sign up and show their support.

“One in two people are elligible to donate blood, but only about one in 60 people actually do, so the demand never really goes away,” said Ann Chabert, territory manager at Canadian Blood Services for Vancouver Island.

The clinic runs from 11:30 am to 6:30 pm and the donor collection for that day is aimed for 67 people. Right now there are six open spots left available for donors.

If you are planning to donate, come prepared by hydrating well before hand, have a meal before, and bring a photo ID or a donor card.

“It only takes an hour of your time and it’s the one thing you can do to save a person’s life,” said Chabert.

Should all the spots be filled, the next clinic is being held on October 23rd, or people can also go donate blood at the Westshore Mobile clinic across from Royal Roads on October 2nd.

If you wish to book a donor spot, book online at www.blood.ca, or call 1-888-2-DONATE.
