If living in a smaller space, such as a townhouse or condo, seems to limit what you can grow regarding fruit-bearing plants, join the Sooke Garden Club for this month’s speaker, Barrie Agar, as she demonstrates the different methods for growing fruit that will fit in a compact garden and still be ornamental.

Barrie received her initial training and started her horticultural career in a market garden on a large estate in Ireland.

Working in various nurseries and gardens in B.C. and Ireland, Agar recently retired as head gardener at Hatley Park at Royal Roads University. She is also a member of the B.C. Fruit Testers, Cowichan Rhododendron Society and the North American Japanese Garden Association.

Sooke Garden Club members are invited to attend the meeting on Wednesday (April 24) at 7 p.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Those interested in joining the club can visit its Facebook page, check out the website at sookegardenclub.ca or email sookegc@gmail.com.
