Realtor Shayne Fedosenko received an award from the Capital Regional District on Tuesday for his act of generosity towards the purchase of Pemberton Pool.

Last May, the CRD bought 6.47 hectared of parkland on Sooke River Road that provides access to Pemberton Pool for $1.2 million.

Fedosenko, who was the CRD’s selling agent, donated thousands of dollars of his commission to help them buy the land.

“Shayne is a great supporter of salmon enhancement in Sooke so we thought he deserved a nice little recognition,” said CRD parks chair Mike Hicks, who presented the award.

Hicks said the purpose behind buying the land was to ensure the future of coho and chinook salmon brood stocks.

Fedosenko added that salmon enhancement is good for the environment and for the economy in Sooke, and many locals volunteer tirelessly to help improve the salmon return. He wanted to do his best to help.

“I grew up on the Sooke River and it’s just such a beautiful area, so anything I can do to help get the fishing up is the least I can do,” said Fedosenko.

“To receive an award is such an honour, but I didn’t do it for the award. I did it for the goodness of Sooke. I would do it again if something ever came up.”
