Sooke school food drive smashes previous record

Leadership class students collect more than 7,600 food items for the Sooke Food Bank

Edward Milne Community School’s students once again outdid themselves, this time for the Spring Out of Hunger food fundraising event.

With the combined efforts of leadership class students as well as other EMCS students and community volunteers, they raised 7,647 food items for the Sooke Food Bank, smashing last year’s record of 3,626.

“It was awesome. I’m really proud of us,” said Grade 12 leadership student Shelby Arruda.

“It was amazing to be able to help everyone,” added student Ashleigh Tregear.

The group also thanked the Sooke Harbourside Lions and the Sooke Royal Canadian Legion for helping out with the food sorting.
