Crash death trial set for October

The trial of a Sooke man charged in the death of a Langford teen is set for October in Victoria Supreme Court.

Arnett Roderick Marchbank, 51, is charged with criminal negligence causing death after a car crash took the life of 19-year-old Jamie Jackson in Metchosin on Jan. 3, 2009.

Last week trial dates were fixed for Oct. 20 to Nov. 1, 2011 in supreme court. Marchbank opted for a supreme court trial and that stalled the case for a full year before a trial could be scheduled.

The Langford teen’s Acura was hit head-on on Happy Valley Road and he died at the scene.

Witnesses reported seeing a man driving a Mercury station wagon attempting to pass traffic by veering into the northbound lane, in which Jackson was driving.
