Trial set to determine criminal responsibility of Alex Conte
Alex Conte, the young 21-year-old Sooke man accused of murdering his mother Sarah Nickerson in January, will be assessed in court to see if he is fit to stand trial.
Conte is charged with second-degree murder, after police were called to a mobile home park in on Jan. 8 where they found Nickerson's body. Conte was arrested and has been in custody at the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital in Port Coquitlam ever since. He appeared in B.C. Supreme Court via video on Wednesday, Aug. 15.
He was found "marginally fit" to stand trial and in February and he also went through a second assessment.
Conte will go before a judge alone in a three-day hearing to determine whether he was suffering from a mental disorder at the time of the alleged offence.
If Conte is found to be suffering from a mental disorder he would be exempt from criminal responsibility.
The judge-along trial is scheduled for the week of Jan. 28.
