A cougar was spotted in Royal Roads University area in Colwood on Sunday afternoon.

B.C. Conservation Sgt. Peter Pauwels said the cougar was reported at 12:25 p.m. at Royal Roads and an hour earlier in the 300-block of Milburn Drive with a deer carcass.

Royal Roads said the animal was seen on the western side of the campus near the Colwood Fire Department.

Pauwels said their officers usually hear of one or two cougars at the campus each year. He expects the creature to leave the property on its own.
