The District of Sooke has been recognized as a carbon-neutral community by the province and Union of B.C. Muncipalities.

By meeting the goal of corporate carbon neutrality for 2016, Sooke has been awarded the Achievement of Carbon Neutrality for the fourth year in a row.

When it signed on to the B.C. Climate Action Charter in 2008, Sooke committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the community, becoming carbon neutral and creating an energy-efficient community. Being a Climate Action signatory is also a commitment to measure and report on greenhouse gas emissions.
