Sooke firefighters rescued seven people trapped in an elevator at Prestige Oceanfront Resort on Saturday.

The hotel patrons, who were celebrating a wedding, were locked in the elevator for about 30 minutes, said Fire Chief Kenn Mount.

There were no injuries.

In the meantime, firefighters responded to two kitchen fires at the same time on the weekend.

One fire was reported in the 7000 block of West Coast Road and the other on Townsend Road.

“Two calls at the same time had us doing a bit of a balancing act,” said Mount.

Both fires were considered minor.

Firefighters also respondedf to a concrete spill in the 2700 block of Otter Point Road.

A cement truck operator lost part of his load going up the hill. The fire department washed the drying concrete off the road.
