Afternoon commuters were reduced to one northbound lane after a U-Haul cube van caught fire on the Pat Bay, the second vehicle fire of the day.

North Saanich Fire Department received the call at 3 p.m. today, and John Trelford, director of emergency services for North Saanich, said an electrical fire was likely to blame. Firefighters on the scene were told by the driver that he could see smoke coming from behind the radio. The driver was treated for smoke inhalation by paramedics.

Both northbound lanes opened at 4:25 p.m. after the truck was towed away.
