A Sooke man faces an assault with a weapon charge after attacking his friend with an axe on Sunday.

The incident happened following a disagreement between the two men, both in their late 60s, near West Coast Road in the Jordan River area, said Sooke RCMP Cpl. Dawn Gilhen.

Both men are Sooke residents.

“They were out together and there was a disagreement, and one friend’s head meant the butt-end of an axe,” Gilhen said, adding the victim suffered a concussion with minor injuries.

“Luckly it wasn’t the sharp end of the axe.”

The assailant was charged with assault using a weapon.
