A police search for missing Sooke resident Michael Gregory Widner ended after his family confirmed he was found dead.

Sooke RCMP have been looking for Widner, 39, since March 8.

On Sunday night, Widner's wife posted a message on Facebook, announcing her husband's death.

“It is with a broken heart and overwhelming sadness I share that the police have informed me that my husband’s body has been found. I am with our children holding them tight and keeping them safe and removed from all the attention. His children know that he is in heaven with his brother Steve and at peace.“

A resident of Tugwell Road in Sooke, Widner was reported missing on March 9. His car, a 2003 Volkswagen Golf, was found abandoned in William Edmonds park near Poirier Lake, said Sooke RCMP Staff Sgt. Jeff McArthur.

Anyone with information is asked to call the local RCMP detachment at 250-642-5241, or Crimestoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
