He leaves behind his sister Joan Hughes[Bridgewater N.S.] daughter Heather[Norm], grandsons Rob, Dennis[Theresa], Skipper[Lisa] and great grandchildren Brinna, Meagan, Sara and Tyler. Charles had lived in Sooke for the past 25yrs and had many friends who will also miss him.

His career began in England where he ran away to sea and spent some time as a merchant seaman. Continuing on in the nautical theme he served time as a steward with the RCN. After the war he spent a brief period of time working at the munitions depot at Rocky Point. He finally rounded out his career working as a cook on both weather ships and the oceans and science vessels.

Charles had many interests but had a great love for music, his garden and cooking. He could often be found baking meat pies and other goodies that he would share with friends.
