Ray Murphy was born in Country Wexford, Republic of Ireland on October 31, 1949. He died at Royal Jubilee Hospital on May 29, 2009.

For more than three decades Ray was a bus driver and he was extremely proud of the fact that he always got his passengers to where they were going and got them there safely. when he retired he opened Sooke Harbour Driving School (later West Shore) and strove to teach people of all ages to drive safely and responsibly.

But most important of all to Ray was taking care of his family. Sometimes that meant crawling around in the mud under an old house trying to fix leaking water pipes. When the power was out for days because of storms he relentlessly kept the generator working so we would be warm and as comfortable as possible. Or driving to Shirley from Victoria on slippery roads, late at night after work, battling rain, wind or snow through vicious storms to get home to take care of us. I think it was his sheer determination and love for his family that got him through.

Ray, each day we know you are with us.
