In Loving Memory ~

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend on February 17, 2024, at the age of 95 years.

Thekla was predeceased by her loving husband Edwin in 2004 after 48 years of marriage. Mom and Dad met at the Edelweiss Club shortly after Mom moved to Victoria to take a job as a nanny. They married in 1956, started a family in Victoria and then moved to Sooke in 1966.

Mom loved gardening and was especially fond of her rhododendrons, azaleas, and geraniums. Her flower gardens were beautiful, especially in the spring. Mom was an excellent baker and cook; she loved cooking meals for family and sharing her fabulous baked goods with family and friends. Mom was also an accomplished seamstress, knitter, and embroiderer.

Mom absolutely adored her grandchildren and had a soft spot for small children, especially extended great grand nieces and nephews. Mom loved all the animals and birds who visited her yard and gardens, including the deer.

Mom was fiercely independent and lived in the family home until a short while before her passing, continuing to cook, bake and manage most things on her own. Even in declining health, mom still walked to the Post office and grocery stores, outings she enjoyed.

Thekla is survived by her daughter Kerstin (Sean) and their children Ethan and Kaarina (Aiden), her daughter Marion, and numerous nieces and nephews.

We would like to thank Dr Emily Lyall and the staff at RJH 8 North for the superb care they gave mom in her final days. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Red Cross in mom's name would be much appreciated. A private family gathering will follow at a later date.

Our beautiful mom

Sun, flowers, warm gentle breeze

Always in our hearts
