Basketball season wraps up: EMCS Sr. Boys
The 2012-2013 EMCS Sr. Boys ended their season last weekend while participating in the South Island Regional Playoffs. The Wolverines were 12 wins and 13 loses on the season during league and exhibition play.
The squad finished fifth in league play and secured playoffs for the 14th straight season.
Thanks and a sad goodbye go to the Sr.’s Eric Albert, Tristen Griffin and Ryan Ehman.
The Wolverines lost three-year Christopher Shankar.
The EMCS captain had a phenomanal season averaging 20 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and a stunning five steals per game over 28 games. Shankar was selected by Island coaches to represent the South Island allstar “A” team in the annual North vs South Classic in April.
Grade 11 power forward Quinn Yates put together an unforgetable year. The 6’4 250lbs forward both lead the Wolverines in scoring and rebounding and lead the city in scoring, at all three teirs A, AA, and AAA.
At 28.9 points and 19 rebounds pergame Quinn was an unstoppable force.
In a time when superior athletes are jumping ship and running to larger programs, Quinn stayed home. He is creating a basketball culture wave that will be felt for years to come.
Grade 11 Sean McKenzie averaged 13 points/game while playing 20-25 minutes a game. McKenzie improved drastically during the last half of the season.
The team would like to thank the program office, the women of the EMCS office, administration, faculty and head custodian Kevin. The season would not have happened with out the transportation of the Mckenzie, Yates and Willson families. The players would like to thank assistant coaches Cody Yates and Matt Payne as well as trainer Peter Chlopan and Ian McKenzie.
The boys now enter club season till end of May.
