The EMCS senior boys’s basketball team moved into a third place tie with the Royal Bay Ravens with a 54-50 road win over Stelly’s secondary school on Tuesday.

Ike Batten took high scoring honours for the Wolverines with 20 points, while Wade Fitzner chipped in 10.

The teams played it tight through the first three quarters before EMCS took the lead with under three minutes to play when Nick Card came off the bench to score five points.

“This is the best defensive rebound game we’ve had all season,” said Wolverines’ head coach Trevor Bligh, adding the local team was able to close out the game “perfectly.”

The win leaves the Wolverines with a 3-3 record as it chases first-place Esquimalt (5-1) and second-place Reynolds. EMCS visits Reynolds for its next regular season game on Jan. 25.

The Wolverines head to Nanaimo this weekend to play in a tournament at John Barsby secondary school.
