One of the greatest animated movies ever produced will be featured at Sooke’s Awareness Film Night on Wednesday (Jan. 10).

Spirited Away centres around a 10-year-old girl who has fears related to a move to a new town, new school, and new house.

The girl goes through a profound transformation through challenges in the spirit world and finds strength and courage through love.

Written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki, Spirited Away was released in 2001 and became the most successful film in Japanese history. The fame spread around the world and a U.S. production was done in English (not subtitled).

It is frequently ranked among the greatest animated films.

Among the film’s many accolades: It won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature at the 75th Academy Awards.

Awareness Film Night is held at Edward Milne Community School theatre, 6218 Sooke Rd., at 7 p.m. Admission by donation.
