ROTTEN BEEF to the person tossing garbage on the ground right next to the bin. Really? Are you that lazy that you can’t take one more step to throw it away properly? Show some pride—keep Sooke clean!
DID I MISS SOMETHING? I went through the April 10 edition five times looking for the Conservative viewpoint on the upcoming election—and found nothing. Was this just lazy journalism, or something more troubling, like bias? Say it isn’t so!
A BIG THANK YOU from me and my dog to Village Foods for providing outdoor crates for pets while customers shop. I specifically walk to Village so my dog can get some exercise and I can run an errand without worrying about her being left in the hot sun, fed by strangers, or taken by someone who finds her as lovely as I do. I wish more businesses offered this kind of solution—it would encourage more people to walk around town instead of driving.
BEEF to people of all ages who step into crosswalks without stopping to look both ways. Even if you activate the crosswalk signal, you should still pause and check for traffic. Pressing the button doesn’t make cars stop instantly—protect yourself.
SPEND TIME with people who lift you up. Engaging with supportive friends can reduce stress and boost your morale. Join a group activity or check in with loved ones.
BEEF to the Sooke News Mirror for the “2025 Federal Election” section in the April 10 edition. You included profiles for the Liberal Party, the NDP, and even the Communist Party—but left out any mention of the Conservative Party. What’s your agenda?
BOUQUET to the women in the gas station lineup who spontaneously collected about $25 to help a 94-year-old man fill his empty tank after he arrived without his wallet and only $1.60 in coins. Thank you for your kindness and community spirit—what a heartwarming act!
BEEF to those who, when they disagree with a statement made by someone from a visible minority, resort to racism instead of offering a thoughtful counterpoint.
BOUQUET to our beautiful Royal Jubilee Hospital. I was diagnosed with glioblastoma three years ago, and I’m so grateful for the care I’ve received. Thank you to the wonderful nurse who gave me the “You’ve Got This” sign.
