As traffic concerns continue to be a significant issue in our community, it’s important to clarify some details and emphasize the positive steps being taken to address these challenges.

Recently, it has been reported that the Sooke Region Chamber of Commerce has pledged $10,000 to hire an expert engineer to collaborate with municipal staff on improving our local traffic situation. We appreciate the community’s interest and want to clarify the specifics of this initiative for public awareness.

The $10,000 pledge is a collective contribution from local businesses within our community. This fund is designated specifically for short-term traffic improvements and will facilitate collaboration between the District of Sooke (DOS) and professional engineers to develop and implement effective solutions.

In addition to this pledge, an online fundraiser has been launched to raise an extra $15,000. This campaign, spearheaded by a local businessperson and resident passionate about resolving our traffic issues, is independent of the Chamber’s finances.

The Sooke Chamber of Commerce is committed to fostering and supporting community-driven efforts to enhance our region’s infrastructure and overall quality of life. Our focus remains on working positively with the District of Sooke to tackle these challenges head-on, ensuring that our community's voice is heard and that we move towards effective, sustainable solutions.

We are looking ahead with optimism, confident that through collaboration and community spirit, we can make significant strides in improving our local traffic situation. Together, we can build a better, more connected Sooke for everyone.
