Expect a soggy parade route for Santa Saturday in Victoria

Parade day, Saturday is set to dawn cloudy with a 30 per cent chance of showers and a high of nine degrees in Victoria. Chances of rain go up slightly to 40 per cent in the evening with temperatures dipping slightly for the 37th Island Farms Santa’s Light Parade. The parade begins at 5 p.m. at Government and Belleville streets and moves north up to Centennial Square at Chatham Street.

The parade route – which extends along Government Street between Belleville and Herald streets – close at around 4 p.m. and reopens around 6:15, as well as the Johnson Street bridge, which closes for a similar time frame. Only BC Transit and residential traffic will be permitted across the bridge.

VicPD officers and reserve constables will work along the parade route and the marshalling area will be closed to traffic starting at 3 p.m.

As with previous events, Victoria police plan to deploy temporary cameras as part of their operations to help keep this event fun, safe and family-friendly. Those with questions or concerns about the cameras can email engagement@vicpd.ca.
