Free cooking classes for seniors offered this fall in Sooke

Five-class series begins Oct. 5

Geriatric nutritionist Melissa Morimoto will teach free seniors cooking classes beginning in October through the Sooke Region Communities Health Network.

Morimoto has developed a series of five cooking sessions, including What to Eat in a Day on a Budget, Fight the Winter blues, Preventing and Treating Chronic Diseases with Food and Strong Muscles and Strong Bones.

The last class will include a tour of Sooke grocery stores and learning how to choose affordable healthy. Meals will be served at each class, where seniors are given the opportunity to relish their tasty meals

and socialize with peers.

The five class series will take place at Edward Milne Community School.

Series 1 will be on Saturdays from Oct. 5 to Nov. 2, and Series 2 is also Saturdays from Nov. 9 to Dec. 7. Participants have a choice between morning (9:30 to 11:30 a.m.) or afternoon sessions (2:30 to 4:30 p.m.).
