SIDNEY — Join the Friends of Shoal Harbour for a birdwalk this Sunday afternoon.

No, it’s not a new kind of dance — but an opportunity to join a guide to some of the wildlife alive and well around the Shoal Harbour Migratory Bird Sanctuary.

Led by the Friends of Shoal Harbour (FOSH), Sunday’s Birdwalk and Tea is a guided chance to go bird watching with some of the people who know the area well. The walk end with tea and cookies, sharing the afternoon’s observations, looking at the accomplishments of FOSH in 2017 — plus some goofy entertainment.

Everything gets under way at 2 p.m. when people are invited to gather at the parking lot at Patricia Bay Park (north of the seaplane ramp on West Saanich Road), or at the band shell in Sidney’s Beacon Park. It’s up to you where you’d like join members of FOSH and there will be a guide waiting for you at either location.

The guided bird watching stroll starts at around 2:15 p.m. and lasts until about 3:15 p.m. Along Patricia Bay, the tour travels along Scoter Trail. In Sidney, it takes place along the waterfront esplanade. Notes will be kept on bird species identified and it’ll all be shared at the tea portion to follow.

Once the walks are complete, people gather from both locations at St. John’s United Church on West Saanich Road (opposite the Deep Cove school) to talk about the tours, enjoy refreshments and be otherwise entertained.
