Dawn Gibson has joined the reporting staff of the Sooke News Mirror.

Originally from Saskatchewan, Gibson will report on news, sports and special features.

Gibson grew up in Alameda, Sask., with a population of 350 people. She is happy to experience the same kind of small town feel while working in Sooke.

She is an avid sports fan and was heavily involved in community sports, including fastball, volleyball, hockey and figure skating.

Her interest in journalism sprouted from her father, who would always shoot photos at her sporting events, and from her grandfather, who loved to tell stories and got her into journaling at a young age.

The SAIT journalism graduate moved to the Island in May after doing a work experience placement with Black Press.

Gibson is excited to get involved in the community and she encourages readers to contact her for story ideas or suggestions. She can be reached by phone at 250642-5752 or email dawn.gibson@blackpress.ca.
