Local non-profit Soap for Hope is asking the community for help as it works to build 100 comprehensive hygiene kits for Mother’s Day.

“We are looking for people in the community to donate new makeup and cosmetics that we can put in with out hygiene kits to make these mothers feel extra special this Mother’s Day,” said Bryce Reynolds, program coordinator for Soap for Hope, which is a program of Disaster Aid Canada.

The kits will be donated to women through the Victoria Women’s Transition House Society, 1Up Single Parent Resource Centre and Sandy Merriman House.

The kits feature quality products thanks to donations from Lush soap store on Government Street and Metchosin Soap Works, Reynolds said.

They’ll assembled by volunteers in Soap for Hope’s Esquimalt-based industrial unit.

“We are still looking for new beauty products and cosmetics or cash donations to purchase items like tweezers and nail polish, etc.,” Reynolds said.

Soap for Hope also accepts donations online under Disaster Aid Canada at canadahelps.org.
