Port Renfrew is hosting its own Carnival 2019 to celebrate Canada Day.
Karl Ablack, the vice-president of the Port Renfrew Chamber of Commerce, said the community is excited about the event and he looks forward to being able to celebrate with friends and neighbours.
“This is a great community and a wonderful chance to come out and have some fun,” he said.
The event will offer the chance to win one of three prizes, including a helicopter ride and lunch in Tofino, two Beach Cruiser bicycles, and a $150 gift card from the Pitstop.
Some of the main event’s attractions will include a kids’ fishing derby (10:30 a.m. to noon) at the Pacific Gateway Marina where organizers will be providing free hot dogs and prizes.
At 3 p.m. a parade will start at the Adventure Centre across from Wild Renfrew and later the drummers and dancers from the Pacheedaht First Nation will entertain.
The event will also feature carnival games at Beach Camp between 4 to 8 p.m. as well as a dunk tank fundraiser.
Music by local artists and a beer garden will enliven the day and, at 9:45 p.m. there will be a fireworks display.
“We want the whole community to come out and have a great time,” said Ablack.
