The District of Saanich has put out an invitation to artists around B.C. to submit art for the area around the Fire Station No.2 Redevelopment Project.

The District of Saanich has invited B.C. artists, whether individual or team, to submit proposals for outdoor public art as part of the Fire Station No.2 Redevelopment Project.

Announced on Monday, July 15, the initiative is part of the District's Civic Art Program.

Saanich is aiming to improve public spaces and promote community engagement through the incorporation of public art.

From now until Aug. 28, applications will be accepted. Once the artwork is submitted, there will be a two-stage public jury process, under the District’s Comprehensive Arts Policy. Potential jury members were called out this spring.

After an artist or team of artists is commissioned, they will create site-specific art for the fire station and the Royal Oak neighbourhood.

The new artwork will be unveiled alongside the opening of the new fire station in 2026.

The redevelopment is currently under construction, which is phase two of the three phase plan.
