City of Victoria book prize finalists announced

Nominees named for Butler Book Prize and Bolen Books Children's Book Prize

Finalists have been selected for two local author awards valued at $5,000 each.

The City of Victoria Butler Book Prize is awarded to a Greater Victoria author for the best book published in the preceding year in the categories of fiction, non-fiction or poetry. The five finalists are C. P. Boyko for Psychology and Other Stories (fiction); Lorna Crozier for The Book of Marvels: A Compendium of Everyday Things (non-fiction); Bill Gaston for The World (fiction); Christina Johnson-Dean for The Life and Art of Ina D.D. Uhthoff (non-fiction); and Stephen Reid for A Crowbar in the Buddhist Garden (non-fiction).

The Bolen Books Children's Book Prize is awarded to an author or illustrator for the best children or youth literature published in the preceding year. The three finalists are Sarah N. Harvey for Three Little Words (fiction), Polly Horvath for One Year in Coal Harbour (fiction) and Kit Pearson for And Nothing But the Truth (fiction).

Winners will be announced at a public gala event Oct. 16 at the Union Club.
