Lifelong Learning is branching out in Sooke – giving seniors a chance to get out and try something new.

“Most of our sessions from September to December were booked with a long waiting list,” said Agnes Kossakowska, the Sooke Region Volunteers Centre coordinator

There was an eight-part series on livable communities, as well as sessions on memoir writing, preventing financial abuse, A Taste of India, introduction to using computer tabletsablet, health-care planning, and brain health.

As well, there was a film series Movies from Around the World, held at Harbourside Cohousing.

All the programs are offered through a partnership between the Sooke Seniors Drop-in Society, Sooke Region Communities Health Network and Sooke Lifelong Learners. Funding is provided by the federal government’s New Horizons for Seniors Grant.

The new schedule for Lifelong Learning is now available.

There will be some new sessions at Sooke Yoga and Wellness, including Movement for a Healthy Brain and Movement for Better Pain Management. Also offered: Introduction to a Tablet and Smart Phone, A Taste of India and Philosopher’s Cafe.

Seniors have requested more on health and financial issues as well as computer literacy, so the programming reflects these priorities.

All sessions are by donation. Light refreshments will be provided.
