Sooke Food Bank and all that jazz

The concert will feature jazz standards for the first half, followed by a selection of Christmas favourites

This jazz-filled event will take a musical swing at stocking the shelves at the Sooke Food Bank.

The Sooke Community Jazz Band is hosting Cereal For Christmas on Friday, Dec. 6 as a fundraiser for the Sooke Food Bank, with admission by non-perishable food items, especially cereal.

"As we know, Christmas can be a difficult time for some people, and the food bank needs a helping hand," said Michael Wilson, a spokesperson for the Sooke Community Jazz Band. "We're happy to be able to put this event on to assist the food bank with the great work they do helping feed families and people in need in our community. Cash donations are welcome and appreciated as well."

The concert will feature big band standards for the first half, followed by a selection of Christmas favourites.

Cereal for Christmas starts at 7 p.m. at Sooke Baptist Church at 7110 west Coast Rd.

The Sooke Community Jazz Band, which has 13 members and has been together for two years, wants to add more musicians.

"We're looking for new members of all ages and levels of talent," Wilson said.
