The Sooke Garden Club wrapped up another successful year – its 46th – on Nov. 22.
Following its annual meeting and election of directors for 2018, photo contest prizes were handed out, and winners of the club’s major trophies were recognized.
The evening concluded with a potluck of hors d’oeuvres and sweets.
As summed up by club President Ron O’Brien, 2017 was packed with learning opportunities and social activities: meetings with superb speakers, tours of members’ gardens, an on-sight pruning demonstration, various contests, the annual public plant sale, and six impressive parlour shows.
A number of members also travelled to Seattle for the annual Northwest Flower & Garden Show last February, and many more took advantage of a club-organized tour of nearby wine/cider estates this fall.
Planning is underway for 2018.
The calendar of events will be available at the January meeting, which is also a good time for newcomers (or anyone, for that matter) to join the club. Annual membership is $15, and meetings are held on the fourth Wednesday evening of the month at St. Rose of Lima Church on Townsend Road.
