Sooke Region Literacy is bringing the written word to the masses.
The program, funded by Decoda Literacy Solutions and overseen by the Sooke Literacy Project Task Group and the EMCS Society, is offering several programs over the next few months.
The literacy project is responsible for managing book bins located at SEAPARC, Sooke Family Resource Society, the T’Souke Nation and in the entrance to Edward Milne Community School.
Here are some upcoming programs and workshops:
• Books for Breakfast in Sooke and East Sooke. A monthly, one-hour story time with a healthy snack for children ages one to five. Each family receives a book to take home. To register, please contact sookeliteracy@gmail.com.
• The Vancouver Island Regional Library hosts a youth dada poetry Workshop on Nov. 24. This is a hands-on creative workshop designed to explore dadaist and blackout poetry. Contact the Sooke library at 250-642-3022 to register.
• Sooke’s Family Literacy Day is held Jan. 27. This year’s theme is “Make It!” Sooke Literacy Project Task Group will work with Victoria Engineering for Kids at EMCS. Please contact EMCS Society to register.
