Students at Ecole Poirier Elementary put their artistic talents to work in honour of veterans and Remembrance Day.
Three schools participated in the annual Sooke Legion's Youth Remembrance Contest, with Ecole Poirier earning the trophy and prizes for the second year in a row.
"I was really impressed with the quality of the students' work" said Ken Levert, Youth Remembrance Contest co-ordinator for Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 54 Sooke. "It wasn't easy selecting the winners from the 34 entries from Ecole Poirier. "The contest is important because it helps keep the memory of our veterans and the sacrifices they made alive with younger generations."
Eleanor Gilles Maclean earned first place honours, Gabe Morley finished in second place, and Nathan Croacker took third in the black-and-white poster contest for kindergarten to Grade 3 students.
Adi Pina Mazariegos placed first in the colour poster contest for primary students, with Quinn Howley in second place and Theolonious Woensdgegt third.
Levert presented the trophy to Ecole Poiries principal Tess Valluy and vice-principal Grania Bridal to applause from enthusiastic students gathered in the gym for an assembly.
John Muir Elementary, Sooke Elementary, and Edward Milne Community also participated in the contest
