The finish line is fast approaching for this year’s Edward Milne Community School graduates.

For the third straight year, the graduation ceremony will take place at University of Victoria Farquhar Auditorium. This year’s ceremony is June 3, starting at 1 p.m.

“It’s a very nice venue,” said EMCS principal Pat Swinburnson, noting the focus now is to get the students through the finals and to the finish line.

“We are currently driving our grads over the finish line, because they have to get on the grad list before they buy tickets.”

Local dignitaries have already been invited, and several speakers have been organized for the afternoon event.

Practice makes perfect, though. Four school buses will depart Sooke for UVic for a rehearsal on June 2 that will simulate how the ceremony goes the following day.

“How the students enter the stage and how they leave the stage is quite complex, so we have to practice it for a couple of hours,” Swinburnson said.

It’s certain to be a packed auditorium. EMCS has a 94 per cent graduation rate, just one per cent behind the national average of 95, Swinburnson added.

“We’ve got some great students.”
