Victoria’s annual adventure race, the UrbaCity Challenge returns to city streets in September.

The urban adventure race – a localized mash-up of Amazing Race and Survivor, with a charity twist – is jam packed with challenge stations that test both brain and body. UrbaCity offers brain, brawn, ultra and corporate face-off categories. Teams compete in a free-form course, deciding their own route and completing challenges as they go. Heritage buildings and boutique shops are the backdrop for amazing feats of physical prowess and mental agility.

Stations could feature brain puzzles, like word games, maps or visual clues, or displays of brawn, like paddle-boarding, gymnastic feats and even carrying your teammate. Some teams combine the two for an extra-long Ultra course. The corporate face-off division features a taste of everything, custom-tailored for four people and a perfect team-building opportunity.

No one knows just what the challenges will be, and time is limited, so racers have to be quick on their feet in more ways than one. All fundraising pledges support Victoria’s own Island Prostate Centre. UrbaCity Challenge is Sunday, Sept. 23 at the Victoria Conference Centre, 720 Douglas St.
