WATCH: 6,000 lbs. of potatoes donated to charity

Galey Farms helped fill a railcar with three tons of food for the Salvation Army

At least one boxcar is 6,000 lbs. of potatoes heavier.

Galey Farms donated approximately three tonnes of spuds to the Salvation Army’s Fill the Boxcar food drive at Bayview Place Roundhouse with a goal of filling the entire boxcar in time for the holiday season.

Two Salvation Army facility serve those in need including the Addictions and Rehabilitation center which houses 150 individuals and provides more than 15,000 meals every month. The Stan Hagen Centre for Families provides a food bank, produce and Christmas food hampers.

Food donations into the 40-foot long and 10-foot wide boxcar can be made at the Nomad Holiday Market at the Bayview Place Roundhouse, 253 Esquimalt Rd., from Nov. 30 to Dec. 2.
