The next Blues for Eric Benefit stars a reunited Sidewalk Trio, Feb. 23 at the Oaks Restaurant and Tea Room. Featuring Doug Cox, Ken Hall and Rick May, the Sidewalk Trio were once a staple of the Victoria music scene. According to event organizer Joseph Blake, it’s been over two decades since the trio played together.

Bassist Rick May splits his career between Victoria and Los Angeles. He’s toured the would playing with the likes of Mae Moore, Luke Ducet, Depeche Mode and Michael Jackson.

Dog Cox left Victoria and founded the Vancouver Island Music Festival in Courtenay. Described by Blake as one of the world’s finest dobro and slide guitar players, he’s a member of the B.C. Music Hall of Fame. He played on Los Texmaniacs’ recent Grammy-nominated album, and on a range of film and TV soundtracks.

Guitarist Ken Hall played for 25 years with Latin combo Kumbia, and currently plays in the band Saffron.

Blake expects the 100 seat venue to sell out early, and tickets are $20 in advance at The Oaks (2250 Oak Bay Ave.). Proceeds from the event go towards UVic’s Eric Leblanc Memorial Scholarship. Tax deductible donations can also be made online through UVic’s website.
