Volunteers needed for Sooke Fine Arts Show

The 11-day event runs from July 27 to Aug. 6

The Sooke Fine Arts Show is looking for volunteers.

The show draws 8,000 art lovers from Canada, the U.S. and abroad to view more than 375 original pieces of Island artists’ work. The show also features artist demonstration, talks, guided tours and live music.

The 11-day event runs from July 27 to Aug. 6 at SEAPARC Arena.

“There is a monumental amount of effort that goes into putting on a show of this size,” said

Geraldine McGuire, president of the Sooke Fine Arts Society.

“We simply couldn’t do it without volunteers, and every little bit helps. A lot of volunteers come away feeling an ownership in the show, even after one shift. They are proud of it and what it does for Sooke.”

Volunteers from the community have been involved in making this show happen since its inception

in 1986, and some of the children of the original volunteers have grown up with the show and come

back to help pull it all together.

“Many volunteers come back year after year, always telling us how much they enjoy being part of this amazing event and how they wouldn’t want to miss it,” said volunteer coordinator Gail Young.

“There is an atmosphere, an ambiance about the show that offers volunteers the feeling of being part of something special and exciting.”

Construction of the gallery starts July 7 and runs through to the opening night gala on July 26.

New volunteers are welcome and encouraged to sign up for a shift online. As the scope of the show

is vast, there are a range of jobs to choose from. To sign up, go to sookefinearts.com and look for

“How to Volunteer.” Details about the show are available at www.sookefineart.com.
