Oak Bay municipal worker allegedly punched, threatened with knife

Oak Bay Police are investigating a man who allegedly punched a municipal worker in the face and threatened other workers with a knife.

Police were called to the incident at the 2400 block of Esplanade Road on Friday, July 26. On arrival, police say that the Oak Bay municipal workers and the suspect were engaged in a heated verbal dispute.

Workers told police that the man had broken the mirror on a District of Oak Bay vehicle, punched a worker in the face and threatened them with a knife.

The suspect was arrested for assault, assault with a weapon, mischief under $5,000 and uttering threats.

He was released with conditions not to attend any Oak Bay Park, to not be within 50 metres of any Oak Bay municipal worker or vehicle and to attend court in September.

Police have said that the matter is still under investigation and the suspect is "presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court".
