A local restaurant is proving again how giving Sooke is year-round.
Every year Cathy’s Corner puts on a free turkey dinner around Christmas time for those in need.
Cathy Gouk, owner of Cathy’s Corner, said she does it each year because there is a lot of hungry people in the area.
“It’s for everyone, not just customers,” Gouk said. “There’s a lot of homeless in the community. People who are cold and don’t have much money. This is my way of giving back.”
This is the sixth time the restaurant has held the dinner, which runs over the course of two days each year. This year’s dinner was held Dec. 19 and Dec. 20.
This year Cathy’s Corner fed 150 people.
This isn’t the only caring thing Cathy’s restaurant has done for the community, however. It also handed out two $250 gift certificates to Sooke schools this year, which were given to a family in need.
“It makes me feel good, and it makes the people feel good,” Gouk said. “It’s like a big family when everyone’s in here, and it’s self-serve so everyone can fill their boots.”
