The Christmas beat goes on for Sooke Community Choir

Christmas concerts set for Dec. 13 and 14 at Holy Trinity Anglican Church

A sure sign that the holiday season is around the corner is an invitation to the Sooke Community Choir's annual Christmas concert.

"The choir was started in 1989 and we've had a Christmas concert pretty well every year since," said longtime member Linda MacMillan. "We're very happy to have it at Holy Trinity Anglican Church this year because it's such a welcoming venue."

This year's event, aptly titled A Season To Celebrate, will include a mix of traditional and new seasonal and holiday tunes, along with some Christmas favourites.

MacMillan said they will be adding a couple of selections from Handel's Messiah that they sang in a recent performance with the Sooke Philharmonic Orchestra.

"Everyone was thrilled about the opportunity to perform with them for the first time," she said. "We're also inviting the audience to join in for a big singalong at the end of our concert."

A Season to Celebrate takes place on Friday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m., and Saturday, Dec. 14 at 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at Pharmasave Sooke at 6716 West Coast Rd. or by cash only at the door, with admission $20 for adults and free for children.

The Sooke Community Choir has about 50 members and continues to grow.

"We've had some past members return as well," MacMillan said. "We're a non-audition choir that's always on the lookout for new members, and it's a great way to make new friends."
