Sooke council assigns members to regional committees

Local representatives take on roles in youth justice, reconciliation, libraries, and water supply to strengthen community ties across Greater Victoria

The District of Sooke council has assigned its members to various external committees and commissions following a recent vote. The appointments are for one- or two-year terms.

Committee appointments include:

Victoria Family Court and Youth Justice Committee – Coun. Jeff Bateman. The committee addresses issues affecting families, youth, and vulnerable populations involved with the family and youth justice systems in Greater Victoria.

Vancouver Island Regional Library – Coun. Al Beddows; Coun. Tony St-Pierre (alternate). The board ensures the effective and efficient delivery of library services, serving more than 450,000 residents across 39 branches from Vancouver Island to the Central Coast and Haida Gwaii.

South Island Reconciliation Advisory Committee – Mayor Maja Tait; Coun. Tony St-Pierre (alternate). The advisory committee provides guidance and support to local governments in their efforts toward reconciliation with Indigenous communities.

Sooke Region Historical Society – Coun. Kevin Pearson. The society preserves and promotes the history and cultural heritage of the Sooke region and oversees the operation of the Sooke Region Museum.

CRD Arts Commission – Coun. Jeff Bateman; Coun. Kevin Pearson (alternate). The arts commission oversees the CRD Arts & Culture Support Service, which provides funding and support to not-for-profit arts organizations within the Capital Region.

Regional Water Supply Commission – Coun. Kevin Pearson; Coun. Tony St-Pierre (alternate). The commission oversees the Regional Water Supply Service, ensuring the provision of safe and sustainable drinking water to approximately 387,000 residents in Greater Victoria.

West Shore Arts and Culture Centre Intermunicipal Committee – Coun. Jeff Bateman. This ad hoc committee facilitates the development of a proposed arts and culture centre in the West Shore region.
