On Nov. 7, Dana Lajeunesse submitted his formal resignation as councillor in Sooke, effective immediately, following his recent election as MLA for Juan de Fuca – Malahat.

“His passion and keen local knowledge and history have been a valued contribution to our community,” Tait said. “I look forward to working with him on shared priorities for our residents, including transportation, infrastructure, housing and health care. Together, I am confident our efforts will enhance the quality of life for residents in the region.”

During the campaign period, Lajeunesse excused himself from meetings and requested that remuneration be stopped with the interim election results on Oct. 19, 2024.

Council plans to meet in the coming days to discuss filling the vacant seat and will keep the community informed as more is known.

For the coming by-election, the local government must appoint a Chief Election Officer as soon as reasonably possible, and set the date for general voting for a Saturday no later than 80 days after they were appointed.
