Whiffin Spit and Sooke Bluffs parks are open again, although the District of Sooke advises that the parking lot at Whiffin Spit remains closed.

The closures were initiated Tuesday to allow staff to remove debris to enable the public to access the parks safely.

A spokesperson for the District of Sooke urged people to be mindful of their surroundings and to avoid standing close to the water’s edge because increasing winds can create hazardous situations, especially along the coastal areas.

The combination of high tides and strong winds could result in elevated water levels along the shoreline, so people should avoid areas prone to flooding, including low-lying trails and coastal zones.

The district also advises checking weather updates before visiting parks and staying informed about any advisories or warnings.

Wear appropriate clothing, including sturdy shoes, and consider bringing rain gear in case of inclement weather.

Stick to marked trails and paths to minimize the risk of accidents and encounters with hazardous conditions, and do not cross flooded sections.

“We appreciate your cooperation and understanding during this period,” the advisory noted. “Our primary concern is the safety of all visitors, and we encourage everyone to use caution and respect the power of nature.”
