Wild and woolly: Metchosin Community Day promises fun for everyone

The event, which is set to take place on Sunday, Sept. 8, will offer activities for kids and adults alike

Metchosin Community Day offers six hours of fun, games and entertainment for the whole family.

The event is set to take place at the Metchosin Municipal Grounds, between 11 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 8.

The festivities will begin with a pet show, wherein participants can flaunt creatures of all kinds, from cats and dogs to rats and frogs. Wacky awards categories include the happiest animal and the longest tail.

Learn how farmers gather wool at hourly sheep shearing demos.

At 1:40 p.m., Metchosin’s mayor and council members will present awards to outstanding community members.

Until 4 p.m., members of the Metchosin Equestrian Society will demonstrate the art of horseback riding.

Kids who aren’t interested in watching others ride can instead opt for a hayride.

Check out the Metchosin Farmers Market between events to score crafts, artisan creations and fresh vegetables, meats and fruits.

A photography competition at the Cobbler Cafe in the Metchosin Community House will display abstract, black-and-white, wildlife, people-focused and travel shots.

Food vendors will be on site to cater to hungry attendees, and a salmon and lamb barbecue will kick off at 4:30 p.m.

Throughout the day, singers and songwriters from the West Shore will maintain the event’s lively atmosphere, and hopefully encourage attendees to dance.
