Teams from all over Vancouver Island will be in town on the weekend for the annual Sooke Invitational Slo Pitch Tournament, which has been a summer staple in the community for more than 30 years.
"This year's tournament will be the biggest one we've ever had," said Jason Dumont, a long-time volunteer organizer for the event. More than 40 teams will play games from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 3-5 at Fred Milne Park.
"We're inviting the community to come out and see some high-calibre ball," Dumont said. "A lot of people know the tournament by the name Marcus Farmer gave it back in the day, Sooke Till You Puke.
There's a dance at the field on Saturday night at 7 p.m. featuring live music courtesy of Triple Dog Dare.
Admission to the dance is by donation, with all proceeds from the dance going to local charities.
"We hope a lot of people come out," Dumont said. "The dance is always a lot of fun."
