5 Victoria Grizzlies players invited to World Junior A Challenge selection camp

They are among 44 players who have made the list for Team Canada West tryouts

Hockey Canada has announced its selection camp rosters for the 2018 World Junior A Challenge and of the 44 players who have made the list for Team Canada West tryouts, five are from the Victoria Grizzlies.

Forwards Alex Newhook, Alex Campbell and Riley Hughes as well as defencemen Carter Berger and Jeremie Bucheler will join 19 other B.C. Hockey League players in Calgary from Dec. 3 to 5 for tryouts.

A total of 22 players will be named to Team Canada West for the 2018 World Junior A Challenge in Bonnyville, Alta. next month.

Forty prospective Team Canada East players will have their tryouts in Etobicoke, Ont. next week. The World Junior A tournament in Bonnyville will feature the two Canadian teams, the United States, Russia and Czech Republic.

No other players from the B.C. Hockey League Island Division have been selected to attend the Team Canada West camp next week.

Victoria currently leads the Island Division 19-8-1.

If the players make it through to the World Junior A Challenge which runs through Dec. 16, they will be unable to play with the Grizzlies for five games.
