73-year-old woman hospitalized after being struck by car in Colwood crosswalk

Driver said sunny, wet conditions hindered visibility; woman suffers non-life threatening injuries

A 73 year-old woman was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle around 9 a.m. on Tuesday (Feb. 1) at the intersection of Kelly and Metchosin roads in Colwood.

Multiple factors – not including speeding, according to West Shore RCMP – led to the driver of a red Acura travelling east on Kelly Road to collide with the woman, who police say did not activate the crosswalk lights.

“According to the driver, the combination of sun and wet reflection on the road made it difficult to see as they approached the crosswalk where the pedestrian crossed,” West Shore RCMP Const. Alex Berube said in an email. The driver was issued a violation ticket.
