BREAKING: Brush fire closes Sooke Road

A brush fire has closed Sooke Road in both directions as crews from Sooke, Metchosin and Langford fire departments battle the blaze.

The fire broke out just before 4 p.m. and West Shore RCMP have confirmed that the fire is “out of control” and located in the 4100 block of Sooke Road in Metchosin.

Fire departments from Metchosin, Langford, Sooke, East Sooke, and Otter Point are all headed towards the scene.

The fire is said to be fast moving, and one house has already been evacuated.

Drive BC says a detour is available via Gillespie Road.

Caught a fire just starting on the side of the road outside of Sooke BC. When we got there it had jumped in several spots, and in the time it took to dial 911 it spread up the hill and an entire tree just sort of exploded. When it's dry and windy a fire can get out of control really quickly. Emergency crews are on scene. (We left.) Listening to the radio now, they're calling it a large brush fire that is spreading very fast.
