VIDEO: No foul play suspected after body found in Langford woods

Area near West Shore Parkway cordoned off

West Shore RCMP and the B.C. Coroners Service cordoned off a wooded area in Langford for several hours Friday as they investigated the discovery of human remains.

At approximately 10:30 a.m., police went to the forest in the 3500-block of West Shore Parkway to investigate after they were notified by the public of a dead body.

Out of abundance of caution, several resources were sent to the scene, including the Island District RCMP Forensic Identification Services and the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit.

Around 3 p.m., the coroner and police officers removed the covered body from the wooded area.

The identity of the person will not be released until family has been notified.

Police said there is no risk to the public as they do not suspect foul play.

The investigation remains ongoing at this time.

Throughout the day, yellow evidence markers could be seen on the ground — one marked a carpenter’s square on the opposite side of the roadway and several led into the wooded area.

Police could be seen photographing the evidence markers as they placed them down.

Three police cars, an unmarked police car and a police officer on a mountain bike could be seen in the area. Later in the afternoon, additional vehicles arrived at the scene including a van.

A white pickup truck was reportedly found abandoned Thursday on the side of the road on Westshore Parkway. It is unconfirmed whether the two incidents are related.
